‘‘Tis the Season..
‘Tis the season to be jolly. Fa la la la la la la la la. Couldn’t help it! I mean could you? It’s that time of the year; Christmas songs are on the radio, malls are packed, kids are on their best behavior and our wallets are empty. Have you ever noticed how a person will complain about the same song being played on the radio for an entire year but that same person will have “baby it’s cold outside” on repeat for 25 days straight? Yep, it’s that time alright. Stockings are hung, horrified babies on Santa’s lap overload your newsfeed and you’re running out of places for the Elf on the shelf. Ahhh what a time to be alive.
Stressful it can be, but it’s the time everyone seems to be extra nice. “Happy Holidays” is a common greeting between peers, sharing smiles as unfinished Christmas lists are running in the back of their minds. This holiday is an oxymoron, isn’t it? Teaching people how to be joyous and loving towards one another while also pushing the expectations of gift giving. We want it all. [Veruca voice] Wouldn’t it be nice to return all those gifts you got and just hand everyone macaroni decorated Santa heads? I wonder how your family and friends would take it. If anyone is willing to try leave a comment below and let me know how it turned out. This year though, i’m taking Christmas Spirit by the horns. It could have something to do with hosting my family or maybe the repeated Christmas songs have truly brainwashed me. Do those songs have subliminal messages? Anyone know? I know that buying gifts isn’t easy, and having to watch their reactions praying it was the right choice is even harder. But having everyone together under one roof will really make up for all the running around. It’s like being the Queen of Endless happiness. No wonder Santa Claus loves this gig. You’ve got one day to drop off happiness and basically go back to being your normal self for 364 days! Genius?! I think so.
Today is a gentle reminder. While we are here, while we are wrapping gifts, listening to Elvis themed Christmas songs while we are stressing about family coming over, take a second. Take the moment right now to embrace love, joy, and all the nerves as well. Be happy you’re alive and able to celebrate the holiday with any version of loved ones. Be fulfilled with all that you have accomplished as the year comes to an end. Be here. Because in just a few short days it will all be over. And unfortunately our daily life struggles won’t be clouded with candy canes and mistletoes. Maybe if we try as a whole we can push the holiday spirit until the new year. Let us try for old Saint Nick to extend Christmas Spirit one more week ❤️!
